Varian Ignatius

VP of External Relations and Communications

Mubadala Energy

Varian Ignatius is vice president of external relations and communications at Mubadala Energy, where he serves as principal advisor on country communications and government relations across Malaysia and Indonesia — partnering with regional and global leadership to sharpen strategic positioning, safeguard the company’s license to operate, and navigate the region’s most complex stakeholder and policy dynamics. His path here reflects a rare blend of public and private sector fluency: as deputy director of strategic communications at Bank Negara Malaysia, he shaped the central bank’s reputation on the national and global stage, steering media relations, crisis response, capital markets narrative, and sustainability profile. Earlier, four years at PETRONAS sharpened his instincts for stakeholder engagement across the energy value chain. Across every chapter, Varian has built a track record of turning trust into influence, earning him credibility with governments, regulators, investors, employees, and media alike. He holds a bachelor of communications from Auckland University of Technology and a master’s in international policy and diplomacy from Staffordshire University.
